Summary: Participants engaged in dialogue critical for the formulation of rational policy to achieve sustainable forest bioenergy production systems. Participants from 11 countries in North America and Europe were present at the workshop, and included policymakers, industry, academia and civil society, representing a variety of organisations from local groups and governmental agencies to international bodies. The event was held at the Forêt Montmorency research station, 100 km north of Quebec City in the Laurentides wildlife reserve. The setting of the event, in the heart of the boreal forest, allowed for access to sites showcasing research trials, forest management activities and unique features of Canada’s forests.
